Why Your Son Should Choose His Own Potty Training Seat

You need every advantage you can get when potty training your son. While girls tend to train themselves at a relatively young age, boys need a bit more encouragement from their parents. By allowing your son to choose his own potty training seat really helps to jump start the training process. Your son is much more likely to want to use a potty chair that they picked out. And fortunately there are quite a variety of potty seats on the market today.

There are a number of potty chairs that sit directly on the floor and sport either a royal theme of either a prince or a king. Pretty cool, huh? Some of these royal thrones even have lights and can play music. Man, almost makes you wish you were a kid again. If your son has dreams of ruling the world someday, these potty chairs may be just the ticket to getting him excited about sitting on the throne. For those boys with a little less ambition, there are character themed chairs, such as the Sesame Street Potty Seat.

The other option is the seats that fit on top of the adult toilet so the child can use the same toilet as mom and dad. These can be a bit of a pain for mom and dad, since you have to move it each time. However, if you have a less used bathroom that can be used just for potty training, then this can be the best option.

The upside to these types of chairs is that instead of having to dump the remains and cleaning it regularly, all you will need to do is flush little Johnny's masterpiece good-bye. And, this is something you can teach your son to do while you are teaching him about the potty. Another nice advantage of the potty seats that are placed directly on the toilet is that there is no real transition from potty training to toilet seat usage. You can just remove the seat once your son is ready to handle it. And to avoid wet leg syndrome, most of these seats come with splash guards so your son can urinate while sitting, which is probably how you will want to start him off.

It's a good idea to let your son pick out his own underwear as well. This will go a long way in pumping up his motivation for the whole ordeal. Remember to never force your children to potty train. It will happen when they are ready. It would be prudent to speak to your pediatrician about any potty training questions you have.
